The Forgotten Stadium

Jugra Stadium in Banting, state of Selangor
At this point in time, it can really, really do with immediate repair work, refurbishing & sprucing up, BIG TIME.

This stadium is quite large for a municipal like Banting and it must have generated quite an excitement for the community around it when it was opened many, many years ago (I first heard about the stadium in the early 80's, so it must have been built way back, in the 50's? 60's? or 70's?)
Sadly, it has now turned into a sombre-looking stadium now.

We keep talking about improving the standard of sports in this country. But it is at grass-root level, like here in Banting, that we can start doing that! But not with the sports facilities in such poor conditions, as what one can see at The Jugra Stadium in Banting.

Visited this stadium on a day trip to the town of Banting, Jugra's Bandar Palace & also the Morib Beach

Jugra Stadium to make way for project

THE Selangor state government has no plan to repair the existing running track at the Jugra Stadium in Banting, which is said to be in a deplorable condition.
This is because the stadium site has been earmarked for redevelopment.
Hence, the Kuala Langat District Council and the Selangor government agencies are not doing any repair work on the track.

A state official said the authorities had been carrying out only minimal maintenance on the stadium and nothing else.
He said the basic facility like the football field could be used for training and matches and the track was still usable.
The official said Banting residents would be allowed to continue their evening walks there but there would be not upgrading of facilities.
“There is no point spending money to repair the track or rebuild it since the stadium will be demolished to facilitate the new development,” he said.
He stressed that the demolition of the historical structure was inevitable.
However, the good news is that a new sports complex will be built near the present Kuala Langat District Office building.
The official said the new sports complex would be built as part of the development package proposed by a private developer.
“The complex will house a football field with a running track and an indoor stadium, with a wide range of sports facilities. It will benefit athletes and sportsmen from the district,” he said.
